THIS IS AFRICA!
by Mary Clare Dorsey | Arusha, Tanzania
The red dirt, ebony skin, and huge white smiles are the three most natural, strikingly beautiful colors of our new home. These coexist in stark contrast to the brilliantly bright blues, greens, oranges, and yellows of the kitenge dresses worn by our African friends. Through the last few months, our team has been seeking the Lord in order to know how we fit into this intricate coat of many colors He is weaving in our lives…
Dear Mission Partners,
On April 14th of this year, on Good Friday, we celebrated Family Missions Company’s 20th anniversary! Your ongoing prayers, love, and support have allowed God to work through this beautiful organization for two decades, and we are growing more than ever. What a gift it is to serve alongside you and all of our missionaries in this work.
As we approached Pentecost this year, I felt called to reflect on my intense need for the Holy Spirit. Jesus tells us the way He intends to continue working in the world after His Ascension: “It is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7-8). Think about that for a moment. Jesus said it was literally better for Him to go and send the Holy Spirit, than for Him to stay with us. Do we live with that conviction daily? In John 14:12, Jesus says, “Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.” Do we walk in the promise that if we believe in Him, receive His Holy Spirit, and are open to His promptings, we are capable of greater works than Jesus did? It seems impossible, but that is what Christ said! Lord, give us the faith we need to live into this promise. An army of animated Christians empowered by the Holy Spirit, each one doing such acts, would change the world!
In his apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis called the Church to raise up a new breed of evangelist, which he referred to as “Spirit-filled evangelizers…evangelizers fearlessly open to the working of the Holy Spirit.” (Paragraph 259). At FMC, we are striving to be just that: Spirit-filled evangelists.
I want to thank each of you for your ongoing prayers and support. We truly rely on it! It is the only way this work is possible. You and your family’s intentions are in our thoughts and prayers.
In Christ,
Kevin Granger
