Dear Mission Partners,
As I write this, it’s been a few days since I returned from my recent visits to Peru and Mexico. Twelve days was a long time to be away from my three boys and my beautiful and heroic wife (expecting our fourth the day after Christmas!), but it is always a joy to be in the field with our missionaries.
A few nights ago, I was blessed to lead a ministry team to the tiny Mexican desert village of Oratorio Chico. Honestly, I wasn’t feeling up to going. I had been sick all day and was thinking of asking one of our other missionaries to stand in as translator when she informed me that she would be assisting another team who lost their leader due to sickness. I took it as a sign, and, without great enthusiasm, I loaded the team in our mission van and braved the road – more accurately the rocky desert ruts – to this remote community. We gathered the few faith-filled, but under-served, families for prayer, praise, testimony, and God’s Word. Through our simple fellowship, the LORD reminded me of the importance of simply showing up and allowing Him to use us, even sick and tired, to touch the hearts and lives of those who are waiting for the ministry of the Church. The Lord highlighted His point when we invited the locals to share. A woman stood and said, “I have a testimony from tonight. I have been in bed for the last two days suffering from a severe toothache. When the missionaries stopped at my door to invite me to the chapel, I thought, ‘I won’t go because my head hurts too much.’ Then they prayed over me, right then and there, and I was healed! So I am here tonight!” Wow! We just showed up – God did the heavy lifting! Encouraged, our group left praising God for His miracles, only to return to our mission house and hear an account of another woman from a different community visited by another team who also experienced a miracle that same evening! God works when we say “Yes.”
2016 has been full of these special moments of grace. It is a wonder to behold when I step back and reflect. Thank you for making this work possible! We are excited to share more of the fruits of His Faithfulness in this edition of SERVE. Please continue to pray for the steadily growing work of FMC and consider supporting us in your end-of-the year giving. We are praying for you and your intentions, as always.
