Miguel Garcia
Born in San Francisco, California, as the second of two sons, Miguel was raised in Texas by two loving parents, though their lives took different paths through divorce. Growing up between two cities came with its challenges, but even then, God was near—planting seeds of faith through the quiet witness of his grandmothers, whose deep devotion to Mary left a lasting impression.
At the age of 15, Miguel experienced a profound spiritual awakening while on a trip to General Cepeda, Mexico with the Summers family who later founded Family Missions Company. In that moment of divine rescue, he heard a clear and unmistakable call: to become a missionary and to serve the sick. That moment ignited a decade of short-term mission trips, as he returned again and again to the field to serve and grow.
His desire to care for others led him to pursue nursing, and he earned his degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville—an institution renowned for its integration of faith and service.
At 28, Miguel entered a season of distraction. Stepping away from the missionary community, he became entangled in the noise of relationships and worldly pursuits that promised relief but only deepened his restlessness. Though his faith was still alive, pride began to whisper lies—that he was unworthy, that returning to church was no longer an option. The discipline of obedience faded, and he found himself drowning in the very solutions he thought would save him. His problems didn’t disappear—they multiplied. And his heart grew desperate for the peace only God could give.
As he continued to strive in his own strength, Miguel came to a life-altering realization: happiness outside of God is not possible. He came to understand that his daily happiness was not rooted in success or control, but in the depth of his surrender. Through a renewed devotion to the Blessed Mother, the faithful intercession of his grandmothers, and a return to the sacraments, Miguel re-entered the mission field—not in his own strength, but through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Now practicing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Hospitalist in Dallas, Texas, Miguel continues to live out his mission—shaped by mercy, fueled by love, and led by the One who rescued him. As he searched out missionary opportunities to serve, God lead him back to General Cepeda, Mexico and Family Missions Company. Now, as he joins FMC and with the support of generous benefactors, he hopes to bring healing and hope to the sick, the suffering, and the forgotten serving as a living witness to the transforming power of surrender and grace.
