Thomas & Genevieve
Thomas: After leaving the seminary at 24, Thomas discovered Family Missions Company and was blown away by the beauty of the missionaries’ lives at the service of Jesus as singles and whole families. During FMC’s three months of training called “Intake,” Thomas encountered Jesus in a profoundly new way. Thomas realized that Jesus was truly my pearl of great price and if he had Him and His Gospel rooted in his heart he needed nothing else. It was the first time he could say that and truly believe it! It is now one of his greatest joys to share this call with others and to serve Jesus as a lay missionary. Thomas is overwhelmed with gratitude that Jesus has called him to such a beautiful life!
Genevieve (Reardon): Genevieve first sensed God calling her into ministry the week of her first mission trip. After coming into the week feeling so lost and searching for a life with greater meaning, she radically encountered the Lord and decided that week that she would no longer be the author of her life but Jesus Christ would. God has shown her that being His missionary is a life full of joy and purpose. Her greatest joy is to share with others the treasure that she found on that mission trip. She loves being able to share what God has done in her life so others can experience the joy it is to live a life with Jesus!
Thomas & Genevieve first met when they both joined FMC in 2013. Shortly after, Genevieve was sent to the Philippines, and Thomas to another country in Asia. Though they were in different countries, they continued to grow in a great friendship built on Jesus. Thomas surprised Genevieve when he asked her out on their first date at the end of 2016. After going back to their respective mission posts and dating long distance for much of 2017, they returned home to prepare for their wedding. Thomas and Genevieve became united in mission through the Sacrament of Marriage on April 14, 2018. They are blessed with three children: Augustine, Agnes, and Cecilia.
Where they are serving: In 2022, Jesus began to stir Thomas and Genevieve’s hearts to do something about the growing spiritual darkness in Ireland. After much prayer and discernment, they traveled to Ireland as a family for a month and there Jesus confirmed His call to serve His beloved Irish people. After an amazing year of preparation seeing God move mountain after mountain, the Vehige family is now serving in Ballybofey, Co. Donegal, Ireland, where, with the partnership of so many friends and family back home, they hope to bring the light of the Gospel back to Ireland.
“The Lord… made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me away… I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” (Isaiah 49: 2,6)
