Thomas & Genevieve
Thomas and Genevieve Vehige are lay missionaries with Family Missions Company and have been serving in Ireland since August 2024 alongside NET Ministries Ireland.
Thomas: After leaving the seminary at 24, Thomas discovered Family Missions Company and was blown away by the beauty of the missionaries’ lives at the service of Jesus, both as singles and as families. During FMC’s three months of training, called “Intake,” Thomas encountered Jesus in a profoundly new way. He realized that Jesus was truly his pearl of great price and that if he had Him and His Gospel rooted in his heart, he needed nothing else. It was the first time he could say that and truly believe it! Thomas discovered that Jesus was calling him to give his life in service of the Gospel as a lay missionary. It is now one of his greatest joys to share this call with others and to serve Jesus through missionary life.
Genevieve: Before becoming a missionary, Genevieve was searching for a life with greater meaning and purpose. She first sensed God calling her into ministry during the week of her first mission trip. During that trip, she radically encountered the Lord and decided that she would no longer be the author of her life, but that Jesus Christ would be. God showed her that being His missionary is a life full of joy and purpose, and one of her greatest joys is sharing with others the treasure she found in Jesus so that they too can experience the joy of living a life with Him.
Thomas and Genevieve first met when they both joined FMC in 2013. Shortly afterward, Genevieve was sent to the Philippines and Thomas to another country in Asia. Though they were serving in different countries, they continued to grow in a great friendship built on Jesus. Thomas surprised Genevieve when he asked her out on their first date at the end of 2016. After returning to their respective mission posts and dating long-distance for much of 2017, they came home to prepare for their wedding. Thomas and Genevieve were united in mission through the Sacrament of Marriage on April 14, 2018.
In 2022, Jesus began to stir their hearts to do something about the growing spiritual darkness they saw in Ireland. After much prayer and discernment, they traveled to Ireland as a family for a month, and there Jesus confirmed His call to serve the Irish people. After a year of preparation and seeing God move mountain after mountain, the Vehige family moved to Ireland in August 2024. They now live in Ballybofey, County Donegal, where they serve alongside NET Ministries Ireland.
Thomas and Genevieve are blessed with four children: Augustine, Agnes, Cecilia, and Ignatius. They are excited to continue discovering how Jesus desires to use their family to bring the light of the Gospel to Ireland, to walk with young people and families, and to invite others into the joy of life with Jesus. They are deeply grateful for the many friends and family members who make this mission possible through their prayers, encouragement, and partnership.
“The Lord… made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me away… I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” (Isaiah 49: 2,6)
