Building the Kingdom of God
It’s been a joy to enter people’s lives here in Mexico. Many have been vulnerable enough to invite us into their homes and share their struggles with our family. We came here with the idea of “helping” where we could, but it’s been good to remember that we, too, need help.
A previous priest of ours, Fr. Doug Martin, shared during a homily that “evangelization is nothing more than one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.” Those words have stuck with us for many years now. We are beggars too, on a journey with other beggars…our spiritual family members. The physical projects we’ve entered into are not the end goal. These projects are only the beginning or continuation of a relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. When they are placed into God’s hands, they can become powerful signs of love and demonstrations of solidarity.
It’s strictly God’s provision that allows for this type of ministry work. Afterall…“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” – Psalm 127:1

While these work projects have certainly been rewarding, they are only a reflection of the TRUE Kingdom-building we desire! Despite only living here for three months, it was a profound blessing for Jennifer and me to be named padrinos (the Spanish word for “godparents”) for a new friend of ours, Manuel. Manuel was baptized only a few days ago, and the Kingdom of God grew in that exact moment. He and his girlfriend, Corazon, also received Confirmation that same weekend, where Jennifer and I were named the sponsors. The whole missionary community has been pouring into Manuel and Corazon, which has brought us closer together as a team! Being able to walk with this young couple on their faith journey is an exciting adventure that, God-willing, awaits us all for many years to come! This is the type of “construction work” that gives us all such joy!
“See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God!” – 1 John 3:1
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for continuing to build our family of faith and bringing all of us closer to You and closer together in the process!
