Come, Holy Spirit, Come!
I was FILLED to overflowing with the Holy Spirit, all in one month! Throughout our time in formation, we have been reading through and discussing the Book of Acts, observing how the Apostles performed mighty deeds through the power of the Holy Spirit.
In John 16:7-8, Jesus says, “It is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes he will convict the world.”
Out of God’s great love for us, not only did He send His Son Jesus to become like us in the flesh, but He also sent His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us every day of our lives. Wow! How beautiful to believe that the same Holy Spirit that was made manifest over 2,000 years ago is still living, present, and active today!
Until recently, I never quite understood the Holy Spirit’s role in my own life personally. Little by little, He has been inviting me into a deeper relationship with Him and showing up in powerful ways. During Intake formation, we were able to participate in a three-day Life in the Spirit Seminar (LSS). LSS is designed as an introduction to a life lived in the power of the Holy Spirit. That week, we listened to talks, meditated in prayer, and invoked the Holy Spirit to stir in and through us the gifts already given to us at our Baptism and sealed within us at our Confirmation.
By Divine Providence, that same weekend, I attended a Holy Spirit Women’s Retreat in Lafayette, which was put on by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of New Orleans. The fire of the Holy Spirit was so powerful within the four walls of that room, and beyond. We witnessed the gifts of the Holy Spirit being made manifest in over 250 sisters in Christ.
One week later, I attended the Abide Catholic Women’s Conference in Lafayette, where the Father absolutely showered me with His love. The conference gracefully presented all that is true, good, and beautiful in our Catholic faith, and once again the Holy Spirit came upon me in an intimate way.
Pope Paul VI writes in his apostolic exhortation Evangelii nuntiandi, “The Holy Spirit is the principal agent of evangelization.” The Holy Spirit is always at work, leading and guiding us in our daily activities and our mission. I am excited to continue growing in a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit and to allow the Advocate to move in and through us in our mission and in family life. Please join us in praying this prayer:
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit
we may be truly wise
and ever enjoy His consolations,
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
