Meet Remi
We met Remi a few months ago and it’s been a journey walking with her.
Remi is 62 years old, has been living with blindness for 13 long years, and her story has truly touched our hearts.
Living in a remote area, two hours away from us, Remi and her family have struggled to make ends meet. Her husband, Mario, works as a laborer in a farm and doesn’t have enough money to bring Remi to see an eye doctor. During our visit a few months ago, we asked Remi if she’d be willing to see an eye doctor just to see if she had any sight remaining. She hesitated and said she didn’t want to be a burden to us. We told her that we are happy to help her and encouraged her to pray about it.
The next time we saw her, she told us that she wanted to see an eye doctor and that she is ready to know about her condition. For 13 years, she’s never been to a doctor nor to a town since she lost her vision.
During the consultation and check up the doctor told us that she would not be able to see again because her condition is so severe.
We were very sad to hear it, but Remi’s fate and resilience amazed us. The letter from Saint Paul to the Corinthians 5:7 came to mind where it’s says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” I think about her faithfulness to the Lord.
She told us that she was used to being blind many years and thankful to finally have answers.
On the way home, we bought medicine for her eye irritation and treated her granddaughter, Rhean, to a meal at Jollibee (Jollibee is like McDonalds ) it’s every Filipino kid’s dream to eat a Jollibee and we found out that Rhean had never tried a meal there. It was a small gesture, but it brought so much joy to this young girl’s face.
Right now, we’re supporting Remi and her family with their daily needs, and we’re helping Rhean with her school expenses. But there’s still so much more to be done. Remi’s roof is leaking, and the walls of their house are crumbling. We want to help them build a safer, more secure home. Please pray for their family and that the Lord provides for all their needs.
