Faithful in Prayer

Intercessory prayer is one of our family’s charisms. We are humbled and honored to be entrusted with personal prayer intentions of many, near and far.

Nearly one year ago, we began writing down specific intercessory prayer intentions in a journal. We record the name of the person we are praying for, their intention, as well as the date and location of where we lift up that prayer. Every few months we look back through our prayer journal and add a note of thanksgiving when we’ve heard that prayer has been answered.

This ministry has become a real treasure to see how God answers prayers, often in simple ways, but other times, in bold miracles.

Recently, while praying in the Chapel of the Holy Family at Big Woods Mission Base, the Holy Spirit inspired us to create a bit more order around our family prayer times. Now, each day of the week has a specific focus:

Monday: Biological Family
Parents, siblings, grandparents, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins

Tuesday: Church Family
Priests, religious, godparents, and godchildren

Wednesday: Abbeville Family
Big Woods missionary community, Vermilion Catholic school, and our parish small group

Thursday: Global Workers
Missionaries and Christians bearing witness on foreign soil

Friday: Mission Partners, Mentors, Spiritual Directors
Those giving sacrificially to our mission

Saturday: Friends & Disciples-in-Progress
Those we’ve encountered on mission in the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Haiti, New Zealand, Asia, Italy, and the USA

On Sunday, we give glory and praise to Our Heavenly Father for hearing all our prayers as we are fed and sustained by Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist and participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

“Come and listen, all who honor God, and I will tell you what He has done for me. I cried to Him for help; I praised Him with songs…God has indeed heard me; he has listened to my prayer. I praise God because he did not reject my prayer or withhold his constant love from me.”
