A Kidney for Junar
On July 5, 2022, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Since that day I have been on dialysis three times a week.
Seven Years of an Amazing Missionary Life
On New Year’s Eve of 2013, if someone had told us the course of our lives was about to radically change, we would not have known what to expect. We had traveled to a few exotic places, but never in our wildest dreams did we anticipate a dramatic reversion to our faith through FMC, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and receiving Jesus’ call to follow Him with a lifestyle of preaching the Gospel and serving the poor.
Reach More
Over the past few years, FMC leadership has been seeking the best way to help our missionaries in this all-important task of making disciples. Their hope is that our missionaries receive tools to help them fulfill the Great Commission and become more intentional in forming disciples. Reach More, a training developed by the lay organization Evangelical Catholic, is the fruit of that search.
Fried Chicken and French Fries
It all began with fried chicken and french fries. That’s what the Holy Spirit prompted me to go and eat at a street stand in Peru. I’ve learned that when prompted by the Holy Spirit, it’s best to listen and be docile. This particular day the Holy Spirit wanted me to go to a street food stand not far from where I was staying in the city of Tarapoto.
Welcoming the Christ Child in the Philippines
Kring Leaño is a native of the Philippines. She grew up in the capital city of Manila and serves as a missionary with her husband, Ramon, and their children in the provincial city Malaybalay. Kring shared with us some of the unique December traditions of her culture.
A Testimony of Faith
My life in the Catholic faith changed completely in 2015 when I met a marvelous missionary family, Jonathan and Teresa Kiehl and their kids. Through them, I began to learn more about God and His wonders.
Just One Friend
Ayush came to Mass that evening. He watched everything I was doing with an attentive eye. He wanted to worship in the right ways, to give glory to the King of kings. Even if his understanding was just beginning, Ayush could sense that he was a part of something more, something great. He was sitting only a few feet from the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

World Mission Sunday: A Call for All
You may not feel called to pray spontaneously with random strangers at the entrance of Wal-Mart (though you shouldn’t be too quick to dismiss it as a possibility). But you are called to give witness in the ways which the Spirit prompts you in your daily life.
Dignity of Work
We have been able to employ some of the local men here. Four of them have been able to work full time, which has changed their lives in such a wonderful way. We have also found Mr. Sanchez, who is a woodworker, living a bit further up the mountain. We have employed him to make the home’s 19 windows and 19 doors by hand from his little humble dirt-floor home.
Keep Sending Them, Lord
With the arrival of the new missionaries in February we found ourselves working together in what we now call “Team Picota”
Eulogy for Frank W. Summers II
Dad sported an epic beard before it was cool. He could whistle like a boss. He could identify tiny birds by a flash of a wing, play guitar and sing beautifully, and in a world of quickly tied neck ties, Dad only used a double Windsor knot! If Dad was interested in titles and honors, he could have put over a dozen letters behind his name from all of the degrees he had accumulated!
Legacies
Now that my Papa has passed on, I think of all of the tiny little legacies that you leave for your loved ones when you’re gone. Here are some of the legacies I’ll remember when I think of him. My Papa wore checkered shirts and guayaberas. He kept a handkerchief in his shirt pocket and would wipe his grandkids’ faces when we were little.
Frank Summers: A Life Dedicated to Jesus
Contagious Joy
On July 22nd, the mission trip of six adults left after being with us for nearly two weeks. The time we spent with them was very busy as well as very blessed. On the third day of the trip, Mallory, my dad, and I left with the mission trip and some of our host family to travel to a small village about 4 hours of mixed travel (plane and bus rides) away. Life there was simple but beautiful.
The Story of Sarai
Even though Sarai found what many would consider a prestigious job as a high-end chef at a five-star hotel, she is only making 1200 colones per hour—which is equivalent to about $2.00 an hour.
Filling Tummies and Backpacks
Each week Ramon and Kring Leaño and their family host a children’s ministry event and feeding program. Recently they made a delicious and nutritious chicken porridge. Porridge, a simple meal that is easy to serve and eat, is very nourishing for the body.
